The Foundation Stage Dolphins
Our classrooms and class structure:
The foundation stage is accommodated in two single rooms with adjoining partition which is always open. Each room has 2 toilets and washbasins, there is also a sink. Each classroom has an external door which leads to a fenced outside classroom and an internal door which leads to the library and the rest of the school. We also have access to a communial quadrangle area with a mud kitchen, musical instruments, mini beast areas, sand and activity trays.
We plan a learning environment both indoors and outdoors, which encourages a positive approach to learning. We use materials and equipment that reflect both the community that the children come from and the wider world. Having a variety of adult initiated and child initiated activities encourages the children to become independent learners, whilst adult led activities allow the Foundation Stage team to focus on particular areas of learning.
We will notify you which class your child will be in via email the week beginning 10 July 2023, therefore your child will know who their class teacher will be in time for our 2nd playdate on Friday 14th July.
Our little world!
We are very lucky and have lots of lovely areas where we spend our time. Please share these photos with your child to help them become familiar with the school environment.
Our Curriculum
Please click the image below to find out more about assessment in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The Baseline Assessment measures a child's ability in reading and mathematics upon entry into the school. This is completed within the first few weeks of your child starting school.
The new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum came into force in September 2021. This is the statutory curriculum for the year, progress of the Early Learning Goals is reported at the end of the academic year.

Mrs Jodie Philp
Welcome to Ingatestone Infant School and the Foundation Stage Dolphins. I am currently the Foundation Stage Leader and Deputy Headteacher of the school. I have spent many years in the Foundation Stage and truely believe it is one of the most important years in a child's Primary education. I teach the Grey Dolphins with the support of Mrs Satchell.
Mrs Sophie Allen
Hi, I am Miss Allen and I am the class teacher in the Pink Dolphins. I am lucky enough to have started my teaching career here as a student 6 years ago and was thrilled to join the Dolphin team once I qualified. I couldn't have asked for a better team to have joined as I feel, as a team, we all possess those important qualities needed for that important first year at school.
